Wonderfully Made: Where Does Your Self-Worth Come From? | Catholic Central

Written by Catholic Central | August 21, 2026

In a world of likes, followers, filters, influencers, and endless comparison, it can be hard to remember that your worth is not determined by how you look, what you accomplish, or what other people think of you.

So where does our self-worth really come from?

In this episode of Catholic Central, Gabby and Nick explore what the Catholic Church teaches about self-worth, human dignity, and our identity as children of God. Scripture offers a radically different answer from the one we often hear online: you do not have to earn your worth, you already have it.

Psalm 139 reminds us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Genesis tells us that every human being is made in the image of God, while St. Paul reminds us that we are the “workmanship” of God.

But what does that mean when social media makes comparison almost impossible to escape? How do we stop measuring ourselves by likes, followers, appearance, accomplishments, or the expectations of other people? And what would change if we learned to see ourselves—and others—the way God sees us?

Your dignity is not something you achieve. It is something God gives you.

Join Catholic Central as we look beyond the filters and discover the real source of self-worth: knowing that you are created intentionally, loved by God, and wonderfully made.

📖 Scripture: Psalm 139:14
“I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know.”
